Bombs are a type of Badnik developed by Dr. Eggman that appear in numerous Sonic the Hedgehog titles. As the name implies, these robots are literally walking bombs, programmed to explode when in range of a target.
Description[]
The Bomb Badnik has a simplistic design consisting of a spherical body that moves around on two stubby legs. The details of its design have been altered slightly with each appearance, though it generally maintains its image of a sphere with a red lower hemisphere and a grey or black upper hemisphere. When an enemy is in range or it is otherwise commanded to by Eggman, the Bomb will activate its self-destruct fuse and will explode after a few seconds, scattering burning fragments over a short radius.

Sonic the Hedgehog (1991)[]
Bombs appear in both the 16-bit and 8-bit versions of Sonic the Hedgehog. In the 16-bit version, they appear in both the Star Light Zone and Scrap Brain Zone whereas in the 8-bit version they appear in Scrap Brain and Sky Base. Bombs move very slowly in one direction but stop altogether when Sonic draws near, at which point they light their fuses. After a few seconds, the Bomb blows up and scatters debris over a short radius which will damage Sonic if he touches it. Sonic cannot attack these Badniks and will take damage if he does so, though his attacks will not set the Bomb off.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (8-bit)[]
Appearing in Gimmick Mountain Zone and Scrambled Egg Zone, Bombs behave much as they did in their debut. However, this time, they take a shorter time to explode and they also respawn if Sonic goes back to an area he encountered a Bomb in.
Knuckles' Chaotix[]

In Knuckles' Chaotix, a Bomb Badnik appears as a playable character along with another robot, Heavy. These two robots can only be chosen as a partner character to Knuckles or one of the Chaotix members. This variant of Bomb possesses considerable speed and attacks by exploding, but is not destroyed when it explodes and can blow up multiple times.
Sonic Lost World[]
Bombs appear in the Frozen Factory and Silent Forest Zones of Sonic Lost World. Their appearance has been modified to more closely resemble Bomb from Chaotix, with a black top hemisphere and cartoon-y eyes. This time, when Bombs have lit their fuses, they do not stand in place waiting to explode and will continue to pursue Sonic to make sure they blow him up. When Bombs explode, they scatter four small projectiles in a cross pattern.
