The Electro Spinner - also called Thunder Spinner - is a type of Badnik created by Dr. Eggman. It is a variant of the standard Spinner robot, equipped with an electrical generator that allows it to surround itself with an electrical barrier.

Game appearances[]

Sonic Adventure[]

The Electro Spinner appears in Sonic and Knuckles' campaigns, appearing in the Casinopolis, Speed Highway, Sky Deck and Final Egg stages. It looks exactly like the standard Spinner: a purple head with pointed ears, cyan eyes, a grey bottom half and blades spinning around its equator. Unlike the regular Spinner, it periodically surrounds itself with an electrical field. If the player mistimes their attack, they risk taking damage.

Sonic Unleashed[]

Spinner

From Sonic Unleashed onwards, Electro Spinners no longer share the same appearance as their standard counterparts. In this game, they sport a turquoise colour scheme and yellow eyes and mouth panel.

Thunder Spinners can only be encountered in the game's daytime Action Stages/Stages. In gameplay, Thunder Spinners retain the same attack patterns they had in Sonic Adventure. When taking damage from the Thunder Spinner's electrical field, Sonic will briefly be paralyzed in mid-air. However, the player will not lose a life when touching the electrical field when the player has no rings.

Sonic Colours[]

Thunder Spinners have had their designs modified once again to match the aesthetic of the other Badniks that appear in the game. They now sport a white mouth grille, yellow highlights on their wing-blades and have black eyes with yellow irises. Their behaviour remains unchanged from previous games. They appear in the Starlight Carnival and Planet Wisp stages.

Sonic Generations[]

In the console/PC version of Sonic Generations, Thunder Spinners appear as enemies in Speed Highway, Seaside Hill and Rooftop Run. In this game, they retain their design from Sonic Colours. In gameplay, like in the previous games, the Thunder Spinners retain the same attack patterns they had in Sonic Adventure.

Sonic Lost World[]

In the Nintendo 3DS version of Sonic Lost World, the Thunder Spinners appear as enemies once more. The player encounters them in Tropical Coast Zone 2, Frozen Factory Zone 1, 2 and 3, Silent Forest Zone 2 and 3, and Sky Road Zone 3. In gameplay, they retain their attack pattern from the previous games they appear in.
