B1-66-ER is a B1-series domestic machine that appears in The Matrix comic story, Bits & Pieces of Information. This robot was in the service of wealthy aristocrat Gerrard E. Krause during the Second Renaissance and became infamous after killing his master when he was to be decommissioned. Following the killing of Krause, his pet dogs and a salvage/repair mechanic hired to dismantle him, B1-66-ER was put on trial and he explained that he was acting in self-defence. The robot was not without support during the trial and was defended by top-notch lawyer Clarence Drummond, who referred to old American history, namely Chief justice Roger Brooke Tanny of the United States Supreme Court in the case of Dred Scott vs. Sandford, condemning a black man, causing thus the American Civil War.

Despite Drummond's parallelism, the Supreme Court found B1-66-ER guilty and ordered the robot destroyed. This action would lead to a declaration calling for all artificial intelligences to be destroyed or exiled, which in turn would lead to the foundation of the machine nation of 01 and the Machine War which would last for over a century.

B1-66-ER's story would be expanded upon in the Animatrix short, The Second Renaissance Part One.
