The Bugernaut is a type of Badnik created by Dr. Eggman. It appears in the games Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Sonic Mania.
Overview[]
The Bugernaut is a flying Badnik modeled after a horsefly. It has a small blue body with a pair of large superposition eyes, four big wings and a cylinder-shaped abdomen on its back. It has no weaponry and will attack by simply flying towards the player.
The Bugernaut is accompanied a a pair of smaller Bugernauts when it attacks. These smaller units pose no threat to the player. When the large Bugernaut is destroyed, the smaller ones will fly away.

Sonic the Comic[]
Bugernauts were among the various Badnik models employed by Dr. Robotnik during his reign over the planet Mobius. In the comic's 99th issue, Grimer summoned hordes of Badniks - Bugernauts among them - to the Metropolis Zone in order to quell a civilian uprising. In the following issue, a worldwide electromagnetic pulse deactivated every Badnik across the planet and shut down all of Robotnik's technology, leading to the tyrant's downfall.
