Ultra Magnus is a valiant Autobot soldier and investigator who has occasionally stepped up to take leadership of the Autobots in some of the Transformers G1 continuities. Magnus holds a commanding presense, possesses uncanny determination and is selfless to a fault. All these qualities make him an ideal candidate for Autobot leadership, but only Magnus himself is unable to see it. Ultra Magnus thinks of himself as nothing but a soldier, despite the respect and admiration of his fellow Autobots and even some Decepticons. He has actively avoided taking on greater responsibilities, but on occasion has had no other choice but to take command of a situation. When he has done so, he has proven to be a natural leader.

- Photon Rifle - Magnus' standard issue field weapon.
- Concussive Missiles - The missile launchers on Ultra Magnus's shoulders have an effective range of 30 miles. They can be used either in robot or vehicle mode.
