Gizoids are advanced combat robots created and used by the Nocturnus Clan, a tribe of evil echidna warriors that appear in Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood. The Gizoids served the Nocturnus as advanced infantry during the clan's campaigns of conquest roughly four thousand years before Sonic the Hedgehog's time. Prior to the Argus Event, which saw the Nocturnus' forced imprisonment in the dimension called the Twilight Cage, Gizoid robotic research had advanced to the point where the Nocturnus created a robot capable of absorbing the Chaos Emeralds. This robot would be the only Gizoid remaining on Sonic's world after the Nocturnus disappeared and would be known in Sonic's time as "Emerl".
