Scratch 2
Scratch is a robotic chicken and one of Dr. Robotnik's Badniks in the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog cartoon series. He is voiced by Phil Hayes.

Scratch was created by Dr. Robotnik as the first of a new breed of hedgehog-hunting robots: the Super Special Sonic Search & Smash Squad. Concocted from various objects tossed into the doctor's Robo-Matic Machine, Scratch was intended to be a powerful, fearless warrior. He turned out to be none of these things; he is a pathetic, cowardly moron with an annoying clucking laugh. Yet in spite of this, he still is often regarded as Robotnik's favourite robot (though this could just be Robotnik playing on his obvious stupidity).

Scratch is considered the "brains" (in the loosest sense of the term) of the SSSSS Squad, coming up with many of the team's plans to capture Sonic the Hedgehog. Naturally, all of these plans fail miserably and he and Grounder end up being severely punished by Robotnik.

Personality Edit

Like his counterpart Grounder, Scratch is very incompetent and stupid, possessing an IQ of 40, and usually fails at almost everything he does. One example of Scratch's stupidity is when he got zapped by Dr. Robotnik's Stupidity Ray, but did not change at all because he was already so dim-witted. He is also highly gullible, easily being deceived by Sonic no matter how obvious or bizarre his disguises are. Regardless, Scratch is said to be the smartest in the S.S.S.S.S. Squad, but that is not saying much considering how stupid they all are. At times, he would see through Sonic's disguises, but it would be too late or it would be a trick within a trick.

Like Grounder, Scratch is quite persistent. He is also incredibly short-tempered and would take his anger out on Grounder invariably. He is distinct by his prominent cock-a-doodle-like laugh, "Ba-ha! Ha-ha!"

Appearances in other media Edit

  • Multiple Scratch Badniks appear in a bonus stage of the game Sonic Spinball. The Scratches are encircling a Prison Egg capsule containing Sonic's friends and the player must destroy them to open the capsule.
  • Scratch also appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series from Archie Comics.
