Vision

The Vision is an android hero in the Marvel Comics universe and a long-serving member of Earth's mightiest heroes, the Avengers. He made his comic debut in 1968 during Avengers #57 and has since featured in various Marvel video games and the animated series Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes.

Background[]

Although he fights as a member of the Avengers, the synthetic humanoid known as Vision was originally created by the maniacal robot Ultron to destroy them. Having previously been thwarted by the Avengers when he attempted to take over the world by wiping out humanity, Ultron constructed Vision using the remains of Immortus' android the Human Torch as his instrument of vengeance. Vision's programming was based on the brain patterns of the ionically-charged superhero Wonder Man and Ultron implanted the android with a crystalline device that ensured the Vision would obey him. However, not all went as planned as Vision became perplexed by the emotions of the Avenger known as Wasp when he first encountered the heroes. Moved by the Avengers' struggle, Vision betrayed Ultron by helping the heroes defeat him, and since then he has become a valued member of the group.

During his time with the Avengers, Vision has endured many hardships as he has attempted to fit in amongst organics. Since his mental proccesses so closely resemble those of humans, he is capable of experiencing emotions and this has led him to pursue a number of romantic interests, most notably with the mutant heroine Scarlet Witch. One more than one occasion, Vision has also sacrificed himself in the name of defending the world. Most recently, he has been brought back under Ultron's control, who has conquered Earth using Vision as his representative.

Abilities[]

  • Intangibility - Vision's most remarkable ability is his power to become intangible by reducing the atomic density of his physical form. The process by which he does this is not precisely known, but this power allows Vision to pass through solid matter and also fly since the density shift drastically reduces his weight.
  • Sensor Array - Vision's optical and auditory systems have an extensive range and allow him to pick up even the most minute signals and scan other materials and life-forms.
  • Solar Energy Absorption - Vision relies on solar power to function and absorbs this power through the crystal on his forehead. The rate at which he absorbs energy differs depending on how much energy he exerts and the process is constant, even at night.
  • Solar Beams - Vison is capable of firing solar laser beams from his eyes and forehead crystal. The heat of the beams can range between 500 and 30,000 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Vocal Processor - Vision can also imitate the voices of others.
