Windcharger is among the fastest of the Autobots, capable of going from 0 to 60mph in an instant when in vehicle mode. Unfortunately, he can only maintain top speed for short bursts as his systems tend to consume power just as rapidly. His skills are best used in situations requiring immediate and decisive action, which is exactly what Windcharger is all about. He makes split-second choices all the time and does not usually question the motives behind Optimus Prime's orders, simply acting upon them immediately and to the best of his ability. His biggest flaw is his short attention span and he lacks patience. These quirks have often gotten him into trouble.
- Alternate Mode - Windcharger's original Earth vehicle mode was a 1983 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am.
- Magnetic Waves - Windcharger's arms function as the positive and negative poles of a magnet. He can generate powerful magnetic waves that can repel or attract any magnetic object from up to 700 feet away. However, this ability is a serious drain on Windcharger's energon reserves and so he uses it sparingly.
- Windcharger has had little dialogue during his appearances in the 1984 Transformers cartoon and was mostly kept in the background. He is perhaps one of the least popular Transformers in the entire franchise.
- In the Transformers animated movie, Windcharger was killed off-screen. His body is seen being dragged by Arcee and laid beside the body of Wheeljack, who also died off-screen.
